In 2021, I was one of those invited by José Mendes and Lurdes Lopes from the City Council of Barreiro to make an illustration for the commemorative book of Barreiro's 500th anniversary. I decided to make a more ecological and current version of the founder of CUF - Alfredo da Silva.
In 1907, Companhia União Fabril was in full expansion and it was necessary to find a place to install new manufacturing units. Alfredo da Silva chose Barreiro. The small village on the banks of the Tagus River would never be the same again. Moreover, the company came to spread several factories across the country, employing 16 thousand workers in all. CUF's motto was "What the country does not have, CUF creates".
